Comedian Dave Chappelle once coined the phrase “when keeping it real goes wrong.” That phrase aptly applies to Lil Kim’s continued assault on rap phenom Nicki Minaj. From the moment Minaj’s profile began to rise, Lil Kim has been on the offensive, proclaiming that Minaj failed to pay her homage, and that she was guilty of stealing her style.
Minaj denied it, and the back and forth eventually died down until Minaj released “Roman’s Revenge” which many took as a swipe at Lil Kim.
““Word? That b—- mad cuz I took the spot? / Well bitch if you ain’t s—–n’ then get off the pot / Got some n—-s out in Brooklyn that’ll off your top,” raps Minaj.
The Queen Bee quickly struck back with “Black Friday,” where she raps: “I hate you Lil’ Kim clone/clown, all this buffonery, the s— stops now … We all know your last name is what got you your job, you’s a put-together gimmick, something like a collage.”
After the dust settled, many in the cyberworld seemed to side with Minaj, as music enthusiasts questioned the relevance of Lil Kim, who hadn’t released an album in five years.
With the “has-been” and “loser” label firmly attached as it relates to this beef, and the strong opening weekend on the Billboard charts for Nicki Minaj (she sold 371,00 in the first week) Lil Kim became a trending topic on Twitter as users began to contemplate what “Lil Kim must feel like” now that Nicki Minaj is a bona fide star.
