Wyclef John has been shot while on a trip to his native Haiti.
The Fugees star car came under attack as he drove through the city of Port-au-Prince.
The musician, who lives in the U.S., travelled to the country earlier this week to lend his support to presidential candidate Michel Martelly as he prepares for the final round of elections against former First Lady Mirlande Manigat today.
Reports said Jean's car had come under attack and was sprayed with bullets as he was being driven through the city of Port-au-Prince with hip-hop pal Busta Rhymes and record executive Jimmy Rosemond.
His hand was injured in the shoot out, but he is in a stable condition after seeking medical attention at a local hospital.
No other passengers are thought to have been injured.
Confirming the shooting via a post on Twitter.com, his representatives wrote: "We have spoken to Wyclef, he is ok. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers - Management."
Jean was himself a presidential hopeful, but last year he was ruled ineligible to run for office.
